Hazen Bay - Lake Sakakawea
Archery
An indoor shooting facility, practice range, and 26-target outdoor course is located next to the Mercer County Regional Airport just east of Hazen. The outdoor course and practice range are open year around to the public. Ball fields
Four softball and baseball fields are located along Highway 200 and adjacent to North Star II Park.  Summer softball and baseball programs for youth and adults are organized through Hazen Parks and Recreation Department. For more information, call 701-748-6948.
Biking & Walking Trails
Several miles of hard surface paths are available for your enjoyment along Highway 200, County Road 9 and West Main Street.  Hazen Community Education offers walking indoors in the Hazen Elementary School during winter months by calling  701-748-6814.
Bird Watching/Wildlife Viewing
Hazen, North Dakota serves as an excellent central point for a birding adventure in the land where Lewis and Clark wintered and met Sakakawea.  Hazen is located in a major prairie region of the Central Migratory Flyway.  The town is close to the Missouri River as well as several National Wildlife Refuges and public lands, all of which provide outstanding opportunities for bird watching and the viewing of wildlife. 

Most of the 354 species that have been recorded in North Dakota can be seen here during some period if the year.  Numerous species of prairie birds and migratory waterfowl make the area a special treat for birders.  A few of these species include:  Bald Eagle, Whooping Crane, Least Tern, Piping Plover, Loggerhead Shrike, Northern Shrike, Burrowing Owl, Snowy Owl, White Pelican, American Bittern, Long-billed Curlew, McCrown's Longspur, Chestnut-collared Longspur, Sprague's Pipit, Baird's Sparrow, and Upland Plover.

Facilities
The New Lewis and Clark™ RV Park is located on west Main Street just off Highway 200 in Hazen. There are 28 pull-thru sites with hook-ups for electricity, water, sewer and telephone. Playground nearby. For reservations, call 701-748-2550.
Hazen Bay Recreation Area is located on Lake Sakakawea 15 miles north of Hazen. Campsites with lake access, electricity, picnic tables and grills are available. Improvements include boat ramps, docks, breakwater protection for the dock and ramp area, fish cleaning station and comfort station. For reservations call 701-487-3474 or 701-748-2550.

 Lake Sakakawea State Park  is located on Lake Sakakawea near Pick City, which is 25 miles northeast of Hazen.  For more information, call 701-487-3315.

 Missouri River Lodge - An Adventure with a View, is a bed and breakfast facility overlooking the Missouri River. It is located 25 miles northeast of Hazen and just 9 miles from Knife River Indian Village. For more information, call 1-877-480-3498.
Sakakawea Adventure Outfitters has daily and weekly cabin rentals adjacent to the Hazen Bay Recreation Area. Watercraft and bike rentals are also available. For reservations call 701-487-3683.
 

Fishing
The Lake Sakakawea/Missouri River system has become one of the top fisheries in the nation and a destination point for anglers in pursuit of nearly every species of fresh water game fish.  access is available at the following sites near Hazen:

Golf
Located just east of Hazen on Highway 200, the Hazen Golf Club is home to what has been called, "The Shortest Par Five in North Dakota."  That hole is the number one handicap hole, the par-3 fifth, which measures 200 yards from the back tees.  Your tee off through a tree-lined shoot across the Knife River to a severely crowned green.  snack bar, restaurant, lounge, pro shop, practice range, cart rental and club rental are available.   701-748-2011.
Hockey & Figure Skating
The All-Seasons Arena is used for hockey and figure skating programs for boys and girls of all ages. The facility has a large spectator area, concession stand and heated viewing area. Hockey tournaments, an annual ice skating show, and various community events are hosted in the facility throughout the year.  Open skating schedules are available by calling the arena at 701-748-2009.

Hunting
Hunting the Sakakawea South Shore Region offers hundreds of miles of habitat and some of the best hunting range anywhere.  You can find pheasants and grouse in the upland, big bucks in the draws, plus high numbers of ducks and a variety of geese.

Parks & Playgrounds
North Star II Park is located on 7.3 acres along Highway 200. It features picnic facilities for large groups with covered shelters, playground equipment, a softball field, two open play areas, rest rooms, horseshoe pits, and two sand volleyball courts.  701-748-2550

Heritage Park is located on east Main Street near the City Hall and downtown area. This park offers picnic facilities, rest rooms, historic buildings and a playground.  701-748-2550

John Moses Memorial Park is located along 7th Street directly east of Hazen High School. A fully shaded picnic area is available plus a few campsites with electricity.

Playgrounds are located in five residential areas and at the Hazen Public School which is at Central and 4th.

Sailing

Sail North Dakota provides charter sailing aboard the "Utopia" which is moored just outside Sakakawea State Park near Pick City.  Trips can be booked for a fun filled few hours or for the day or night. Sail Sakakawea  is a charter sailing service that operates from Dakota Waters Resort. Sailing excursions on a well-equipped 34-foot sailboat with a Coast Guard licensed captain can be booked for a few hours or a few days. This is the ideal way to see the Lewis and Clark Trail. Swimming

An outdoor pool with a 165' water slide is open June-August. The schedule includes lap swim, aqua aerobics, swimming lessons, family swim, open swim and water slide. For more information call 701-748-2413 or 701-748-6948.
Tennis
Hazen has two tennis courts available north of Highway 200 on 10th Street NE. One court has been modified to accommodate skateboarders with rails and jumps. No reservations are necessary.
